Stress means different things to different people. What causes stress in one person may be of little concern to another, and some people are far able to handle stress than others.

It’s hard not to get overwhelmed once in a while. Combining work, family, and many other commitments, one can become stressed out and tired.

Our bodies are designed to handle just a low-level dose of stress. The body is not equipped to handle long-term stress without it having a toll on our body system. If your stress level stays elevated far longer than is necessary for survival, it can take a toll on your health. It could result in chronic health problems, including heart disease, kidney disease, high blood pressure, and stroke.

Symptoms that show that you just might be experiencing chronic stress include:

-Irritability

-Change of sleep cycle

-Loss of appetite

-Anxiety

-Constant worry

One needs to always set time aside to unwind or your mental and physical health would suffer greatly. Here are various ways one could use to relieve stress;

Exercise. Exercising regularly is one of the best ways to relax your body and mind.

Exercise doesn’t necessarily mean powerlifting at the gym. A short walk around the office or simply standing up to stretch can do a whole lot in relieving stress.

Eating. Eating a regular, well-balanced meal will help you feel better in general. Fruits and vegetables are always good, and fish with high levels of omega-3 fatty acids have been shown to reduce the symptoms of stress.

Spend time with family and friends. Support from friends and family can help you get through stressful times, and give you a sense of belonging.

Laugh often. Laughter really is the best medicine. It helps to reduce stress and relieves tension so, watch something funny and laugh out loud.

Sleep better; research shows that getting enough quality sleep at the right times is vital for mental health, physical health, quality of life, and safety.

Take deep breaths and make a time out to meditate.

Go easy on yourself, take breaks often because being overly stressed affects one’s health.
